ART FOR YOUR LIVING KITCHEN
TEFAF 2020 AS A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

The world's leading art fair took place at the beginning of this month:  TEFAF, the international event for visual arts, antiques and design. True to tradition, I travel to the MECC in Maastricht on one of the preview days. I've been looking forward to it for weeks! In preparation for this party, however, I first define a theme, because it's just impossible to see everything in one day.

This time it was 'Art for the contemporary kitchen', because of the “Art & Design Experience” which starts in April at SieMatic at the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. Here is what I have spotted!

Plates and bowls - special eye-catchers in the modern living kitchen

Decorative plates and bowls are real eye-catchers and an essential part of the modern kitchen interior, but these pieces are better left on display only.... What about this beautiful hand-painted plate? I've always had a soft spot for Delft Blue, Chinese Blue and pottery painted in blue in general. So this beauty 'A Dish with a Dragon' quickly caught my eye!

I also find this terracotta 'Greek Bilingual eye-cup' a very special piece, which would not be out of place in an elegant designer kitchen. It dates from 520 BC and was shown by Charles Ede, one of the leading art galleries in London, specialising in antiquities from Greece and Italy, among others. And a little later I spotted another magnificent object in this category, made from pieces of broken crockery, with the glue visible in gilded form.

Knives and spoons - for display outside your kitchen drawer

Do you also still keep your very first silver cutlery in the kitchen drawer? Do you remember last time when you bought a complete set of cutlery just for display? Whenever I'm in a nice home furnishing shop, I always look for special cutlery. And I keep of course a close eye on the social media channels of stylish 'cutlery' brands. As soon as I spot something special, I immediately share it on LEEM WONEN.

At TEFAF I also saw very special cutlery, like the 'Horse-head dagger' from the seventeenth century and the silver spoon 'Ladl' with ivory handle from 1900. However, these are objects that deserve a special place outside the kitchen drawer. For example, in a luxurious wall glass cabinet of your luxury SieMatic PURE SLX living kitchen.

Furniture and decoration - give cachet to your vintage living kitchen.

The vintage interior pieces and design icons at TEFAF attract many enthusiasts and collectors every year. Interior design addict that I am, you can imagine that it was a real pleasure to discover the original cognac leather Bridge Direction Armchair by Jean Prouvé from the 50s. Wouldn’t it look beautiful at the head of the dining table of your living kitchen?

In between, I also saw some nice decoration pieces for the kitchen worktop, such as a very small, elegant bronze statue 'Acrobat sitting on a ladder', a native wooden statue and a cheerfully coloured set of vases. And once at home, I can still look for hours at Ingrid Donat's Cabinet Klimt; a bronze jewel that will not look out of place in today's open kitchen.

Luckily I can do it again in April; then the festive vernissage of this so-called Art & Design Experience will take place in the flagship store of SieMatic at the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. For this exhibition SieMatic has curated a number of works of art by artists Jos Out, Erlinde Boersma and Danielle van Herk in collaboration with Dutch Luxury Design and PrinsPR. Already looking forward to it!
